Helpful Tips For Buying And Owning A Horse
If you are a novice or seasoned professional there are a few things all horse people can agree on. Horses are exciting, challenging, fragile and powerful, sometimes all at once, information and help from our fellow horse owners is part of what makes owning a horse so much fun and gives us our best chance of success. That is what our help center is about..it will always be a work in progress as we learn from each other and our horses.
The Stables at South Molton - Horse Training
We believe training should be fun for both the trainer and the horse. Using principles of natural horsemanship, our own experiences, and creativity we incorporate many tools and methods of communication into our everyday training. We strongly believe there are no good shortcuts to training a safe, reliable horse.
We begin training each horse committed to the time it will take to achieve our goals. We focus a great deal of time and energy in all phases of our training program on developing the horse's mind. For we believe that no matter what the rider's goals are in owning a horse, the rider's experience is always enhanced when the horse is able to maintain a positive attitude in the company of humans.
There are three key elements in our training methodology at South Molton:
- Gentling the horses and developing trust
- Teaching tangible skills essential for their use as a pleasure horse
- Developing desirable habits and transferable training exercises
The Stables at South Molton - Horse Boarding
We offer several boarding options at our central Alberta ranch near the small town of Alix, Alberta (35 minutes east of Red Deer). Available boarding spaces vary but we will always try and find room for a horse purchased from The Stables at South Molton.
- Outdoor riding arena, both indoor and outdoor round pens
- Trail network with 160 acres private land

What you really need to know about equine prospects
When I was first introduced to the horse business, one of the most perplexing elements of the business was this term banded about so freely: "prospect". The best way to define what a legitimate prospect is: a horse with the right conformation, breeding and temperament for the targeted discipline or desired use by the owner, sadly it is too often used to categorize every foal that is born alive; legitimate or not. Developing a sound strategy when looking to purchase a prospect will help guard against making serious errors in judgment.
