Overview - The Stables at South Molton Horse Boarding:

The Stables at South Molton is a horse breeding training facility located in central Alberta that offers a limited number of boarding spaces. Boarding your horse at South Molton you will enjoy:

Our Facilities

We do require horse owners to book the indoor training facilities they wish to use in advance on a monthly basis. Use of the training facilities is busy at times and this ensures you have access at times that fit your schedule.

Boarding is primarily available for owners of horses bred and trained at South Molton. However, we do accept a limited number of other horses with a vet certificate of health including vaccination history. See the following tabs for availability and more information.

We stress equine safety for all of our boarding facilities. We use only wood or steel rails for our corral, turnout pens and pressure areas.

South Molton Pasture Horse board Overview:

price: $250/month; discounts available for South Molton purchased horses.

    • Free choice good quality hay and grazing depending on the season
    • Free choice minerals active
    • Active monitoring of your horse's body condition score to ensure they maintain a healthy body score.

  • Accommodations:
    • We have three primary pastures that we use during the year
      • 80 acre field
      • 20 acre field
      • 40 acres field
  • Gradual transition for your horse:
    • First 1 - 2 weeks will be spent in corral boarding to help in settle in as well as to help us learn about your horse
    • 30 day turn out in a smaller pasture with a group of non-dominant horses so they get use to herd life and learn the local social order. As well as to allow us and you observe how they may transition into the herd
  • Safety features:
    • Use of wood or steel fencing in all high pressure areas
    • Fencing and facilities always in good working order

South Molton Paddock Horse Boarding:

    • We have 4 paddocks/corrals
    • Maximum sharing per paddock is 8 horses
    • Private grazing pasture used on rotational basis during grazing months
  • Gradual transition for your horse:
    • First week in private pen adjacent to paddocks to help in settle in and get to know the equine social scene from across the fence as well as to help us learn about your horse
  • Safety features:
    • Use of only wood or steel fencing in paddocks/corral
    • Fencing and facilities always in good working order

South Molton Private Horse Boarding:

what's included:

  • Nutrition and health care:
    • three times a day service of good quality hay
    • portions of oats once a day
    • free choice minerals
    • feeding of owner supplied mineral at no extra costs
    • deworming included (4 quarterly general worming for bots and other common parasites plus one annual worming for tape worms)
    • Active monitoring of your horse's body condition score to ensure they maintain a healthy body score

  • Accommodations:
    • Private, heated indoor stall during the winter
    • Private, covered outdoor stall for pleasant weather evenings
    • Daily private turnout

South Molton Equine Lay Up Services:

  • Treatments for injured horses
  • administering a vet prescribe treatment
  • Costs:
    • $500/monthly for private board while in lay up program
    • plus cost of administering the vet care prescribed. This is variable depending on the prescription, but usually will run between $100 - $150 monthly

stable rules:

  • Hours of operations:
    • Spring/Summer: 9 AM to 9 PM
    • Fall/Winter: 10 AM to 4 PM
  • For field and corral boarding, horses must be very easy to catch and to handle for safety and avoiding training other to be hard to catch.
  • While it is optional that you use South Molton deworming service, deworming is not optional. Please notify us when you deworm your horse.
  • Dogs are not permitted on premise. We love dogs, but not all dogs play well with horses and this could pose a hazard for others and the horses.
  • No smoking on premises.
  • All gates must be kept locked at all times except when leading your horse through.
  • Do not use tack that you do not own.
  • Do not use ranch feed supply.

Equine Care:

The following are optional services available for your horse while boarded at South Molton:

Service Cost

Standard deworming services: 5 times per year

  • 4 quarterly treatments for bots and other internal parasites (active ingredient used for 2009 is Overexciting)
  • 1 annual treatment for tape worms

$100 for yearly for all five dewormings if paid up front

Upgrade to 6 deworming/year

$15 upgrade to $115/year

Ad hoc / once off deworming $25 per treatment
Trimming and shoeing This is an outside service, call for current pricing

Keep ready service

Horse boot rental (horse shoe alternative) - Available in different sizes $20/Week - requires a $150 per pair refundable deposit
